Barrett Lyon , CEO and Founder of Prolexic is a pioneer in the
fight
against cyber crime. Barrett Lyon has received considerable attention
internationally for his work on the front lines in the battle against
Cyber Extortionists. When he was only 26 he created the infrastructure
to allow online casinos to protect themselves from distributed denial of
service attacks (DDOS) one of the most devastating weapons in the cyber
criminal’s arsenal. Mr. Lyon will address these techniques in his
presentation as well as expose the audience to the chilling reality of
defending against targeted cyber
attacks.
Barrett Lyon brings more than 15 years experience in Internet
security analysis and TCP/IP networking to his role at Prolexic. Watching
and learning as denial of service attacks evolved from a minor nuisance to big
business, Lyon conceptualized the Prolexic border defense system. His
expertise includes extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in network
security, Internet, operating systems, software development, network architecture and database design.
Prior to founding Prolexic, Lyon served as a senior consultant for Network
Presence where he managed the engineering team responsible for the security of
some of the world’s largest networks. He was also a developer for the open
source project Linux and formed AlphaLinux.org, a nonprofit organization
responsible for bringing the Linux kernel into the 64-bit world of the Alpha,
which also helped create a 2.5 billion dollar industry for Compaq. Lyon
studied philosophy with a concentration on applied law and ethics at California
State University, Sacramento.
